“I Feel Jealous Of Tiwa Savage” – Maheeda On Envy, Religion And Growing Up Poor

OnoBello
Caroline Sam, popularly known as Maheeda, is a model, actress, singer and an orphan.  The 30 year-old entertainer recently posted her nude pictures on the net and that attracted derogatory reactions from the public.
In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, Maheeda stated point blank that she has no apologies for posting such obscene pictures.  She was quick to add that she did it for a reason and the result has been favourable.
OnoBello
Read excerpts from the interview:
Have you always wanted to do music as a child or it came along the line?
I have always wanted to do music but the basic thing is stardom. I wanted to be somebody and as an orphan without a family I needed to make something out of my life.  So, that actually pushed me into music.
Maheeda
You were once a gospel artiste, what happened?
I think what happened was just spiritual maturity.  At a stage in your life, you have to take a break and grow up or else everything will just be wrong.  I needed to grow spiritually.  Christians call it born again.  I am standing in the gap not for Christians or for Muslims.
Maheeda
At the point you attained spiritual maturity, did it work?
It worked.  I just discovered a light because in every light there is a greater light.  Some Christians just stop halfway, that is why they remain poor but you have to make something out of it.  You need to study well if you really need something and God will show you how to make it.
Maheeda
You sound very religious?
Yeah, of course, I am religious because I still believe in God and nobody can take that away from me.  Jesus is the best thing that happened to my life.
Maheeda
OnoBello
Do you belong to any religious sect?
No.  This Sunday I go to Christ Embassy, next Sunday I go to House on the Rock or even Redeemed.  I am just anywhere Jesus is.  When it comes to my music, I am in the middle because I have fans that are Christians, Muslims, lesbians and gays.
Maheeda
As a born again, it appears you don’t have a problem exposing your body.  Why is that?
True, I don’t have a problem doing that but I think it is because of my job and I know most Christians won’t understand it.  But I just believe that this is what I have to do, to get attention, especially when it comes to my job and I just believe His grace is enough for me.  He loves me more than my ‘nakedness’. If you see God as a Father because He sees you as a daughter, I would not because of your nakedness want to ruin you or kill you.  That is how I see God.  He understands me.  He hates me but He loves me at the same time.
Maheeda
I understand you are married, are you still with your husband and does he support your career?
I am still very much in my marriage and my husband does not have any problem with what I am doing. He supports me.
Maheeda
From observations, it was discovered that there is a kind of rivalry between yourself and Afrocandy.  What is going on?
I really don’t know, maybe she feels threatened.  I used to feel threatened as well, it is normal. Sometimes I feel jealous of Muna, Tiwa Savage.  I feel like why are you having all those things which I don’t have.  It is just normal but it is the ability to control it that really matters.
Maheeda
Recently, on Instagram you posted a picture of you and your 13 year-old daughter.  Can you tell us a bit about her?
Her name is Divine Favour. I gave her that name because when I was pregnant, I was 17 and was almost like a virgin who did not really know how to wash herself.  I went to church and told God, I want you to do me a favour, I want to give birth normally and it worked exactly how I asked God to do it.  I gave her that name because I asked for favour and I got it.  I really want her out of my life drama because I want her to take decisions.  This was not what my mom did, she was a very quiet and reserved person and look at me, I’m like a mad woman but she did not choose it for me.  I made my decision and whatever comes with it, I would face it.  So, I want to teach my daughter how to make a choice, stand by it and see what comes out of it.  Whatever I do now, good or bad, I don’t want her to follow my footsteps. If good, fine but if bad she will not take it.  I am not afraid of risks.
Maheeda
OnoBello
Maheeda & her daughter
So tell us, where do you make your money?
(Laughs) I make my money from shows, invitations.  Some people invite me and I get paid just to sit down and drink, take pictures for birthday parties, weddings and many more.  Sometimes, I perform, sometimes I don’t. I also do modelling. In Holland, I did two modelling jobs, one cost about N2 million and the other was close to a million naira.
Maheeda
How would you describe your survival story?
I don’t know what to say but all I know is that growing up was very hard.  There were times I had to sleep on the streets, I am an orphan, I have been an house girl and I did a lot of menial jobs but I thank God for where I am today.

NIGERIA: Gunmen kidnap three expatriate workers in Bayelsa State

Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped three expatriate workers in Bayelsa State.
Saturday Vanguard learnt the expatriates were seized, Wednesday, at Emakalakala in Ogbia local government area of the state.
The abduction, has again brought to the fore the parlous state of security in the riverine enclave of the state where pirates and other criminal elements have been terrorizing law abiding citizens.
Though the nationalities of the abducted expatriates could not be ascertained they were said to be working for a construction firm, Elmerit.
Sources told Saturday Vanguard that the gunmen snatched their victims who were working on road projects in the area at gunpoint and dragged them into a waiting boat and sped away into the surrounding creeks.
As at press time, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction.
The Spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta code-named ‘Operation Pulo Shield’, Colonel Mustapha Anka, and the state Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Rowland Eboka could not be reached for comments.
But a security source, who pleaded not to be named confirmed the abduction.
He added that security operatives were already combing the area with a view to rescuing the victims and bring the perpetrators to book

NIGERIA: Jonathan: Loss of Position of Speaker by S’West Haunts Me

President Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday expressed regret over the failure of the South-west to get the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives in accordance with the zoning arrangement of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, adding that it had continued to be a thorn on his conscience.
Jonathan expressed this regret while speaking at the Yoruba Unity Summit held at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.
During the summit organised by the Yoruba Unity Forum, the President also attributed the failure of the zone to get the post to individual interests of some politicians in the region.
He stressed the need for equity in appointments in accordance with the zoning formula of the PDP.
Said the President: “I always say it; one of the problems I faced in the National Assembly was that I felt the right thing should be done because our party has a formula. We have six geo-political zones in the country and when the president emerges from one of the geo-political zones, the vice president emerges from another geo-political zone, the rest core offices – the senate president, the speaker, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the chairman of the party – must come from different geo-political zones.
“The idea is that, whenever we are distributing board positions and some of these appointments, these people sit to take decisions. Whenever we are appointing ministers, all these people sit to take decisions. In that case, we want all the geo-political zones to be in the inner caucus that take critical decisions.
“The last time, it was difficult for me because I insisted that the South-west must get the office of speaker. Of course, I couldn't go through with it because some of us within the South-west didn't want it based on some personal reasons. I am still suffering from that till today. That is one of the reasons that the leaders said, this time around, we must work collectively so that whatever position is zoned to the South-west, we should get that position.”
The President restated his undying conviction on the unity of the country and expressed appreciation on the efforts of the Yoruba people and their cooperation with other sections of the country which sustained unity.
He pledged that his government would continue to do more for the South-west.
According to him, over 50 per cent of the nation’s wealth is from the South-west, pointing out that infrastructure such as airports, rail link and power must be provided to enable the area to continue to provide opportunities for the people.
Jonathan said the summit was an opportunity for him to salute the collective spirit of the Yoruba people that has seen them play critical roles at every important junction in the history of our country.
“I have said it and I will say it again. We will implement the recommendations. The political environment now is not too conducive for certain good things to be raised because of partisan interest. People are ready to even kill. I wouldn't want to play with that document that our great men and women, our egg heads took time to form. I believe the whole context will be taken by government. So, we will surely implement it,” he said.
He observed that the gathering was "not just about the unity of the descendants of Oduduwa but a clarion call on Nigerians to embark on a path to seek accommodation and build consensus."
The President charged all to be in harmony, articulate differences with a view to arriving at formidable national consensus to give the nation a more robust vision and energy to confront the rest of the world.
He said with love, understanding and respect for one another, there is no obstacle Nigeria would not surmount, adding, "with unity, we can go to the moon."
The President assured the South-west that the federal government would never leave the region behind in development and called for their cooperation.

Cross River 2015: Why Duke and the gang are against Imoke — Idagbo

Barrister Legor Idagbo, a former commissioner in Cross River State is one of the commissioners who left the Governor Liyel Imoke cabinet to seek the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the forthcoming election. He spoke in an interview on his prospects and recent developments in the state. Excerpts:
Why do you think you are best suited for the office of the governor of Cross River State?
I would say that the state has been blessed with some level of leadership, particularly under the leadership of his Excellency, Governor Liyel Imoke. He has been able to build consensus, strong leadership institution, he established a regime of transparency in the state and today, the state has one of the best procurement agencies in Nigeria, if not in the world. Due process and price intelligence of the state is the best in the country. Even some other states have come to understudy what we have been doing here in terms of due process. Cross River State has moved away from being a civil service state to a preferred tourist destination and an investment haven in Nigeria. I want to give credit to the former governor, His Excellency, Donald Duke. He did his own bit in trying to take the state from civil service status to a tourist destination but he left so many things undone. However, His Excellency, Senator Liyel Imoke has painstakingly crossed the ‘t’s and dotted the ‘i’s. Even though the state was left in huge debt, Senator Imoke was able to wade through the challenges to move the state forward, despite the challenges of the loss of oil wells, the loss of Bakassi, and so many other challenges that we faced. The governor has been able to lead Cross River State to greater heights. So, the question that should be asked is that, moving forward, what needs to be done?
What do you make of some of the recent verbal attacks on Governor Imoke?
The attacks were uncalled for. It was strange! If you listened to what the former governor, Donald Duke said, you would be disappointed. I must confess that I have always admired Donald Duke, but, I was completely disappointed with what he said of his successor, Governor Liyel Imoke. I did not believe that a former governor would condescend to that base level of making disparaging comments about his friend who is also his friend successor. It must be said that Donald Duke has an unfettered access to this administration. If he has any issues with the government, he should have raised them all this while. He does not need to wait to gather crowds, mount the rostrum and wash down the government. As a matter of fact, what exactly did he say that made sense that fateful day? Did he attack the programmes of this government? Did he find fault in the prudent running of the state? What he kept emphasizing was “two monkeys”, Lilleker and Sematech. But it is ironic because it is the administration of Donald Duke that brought Lilleker to Cross River State. That was in 2003. The records are there for anyone to verify. The first job Lilleker did under Duke’s administration ran into billions of naira. The privatization of the Water Board was done by Mr. Donald Duke with Lilleker as the preferred firm. All the streets lights in the state were handled by Lilleker, under Donald Duke. So, Lilleker is a product of Mr. Donald Duke.
Administratively and leadership-wise, how would you describe Governor Liyel Imoke?
Senator Liyel Imoke is somebody I have had the privilege to serve under. He is a fantastic man. In fact, he is fantastic to a fault because he wines and dines even with his enemies, even when he is aware that they are planning to undo him. There are cases where somebody would tell the governor that this man does not like you, that he is planning to destroy you, yet the man would be elevated by the governor. One would wonder the style he uses. It has worked thus far but it has created the present political tension being witnessed in the state. Mention all the people fighting the governor, who among them does not have direct access to him? Senator Ita Giwa for one, has an unfettered access to the governor.
His Excellency, the former governor Mr. Donald Duke has enjoyed immense protection from this administration. I have sat in Exco chamber where the governor said that anybody who raised his voice against Donald Duke did so against him, the governor. And he has made sure that nobody said anything negatively against Donald Duke. There are so many former governors that have been chased by EFCC, ICPC, for acts they did while in government but Donald Duke is perceived by the outside world as a saint. The reason he is enjoying this sainthood is because of the protection he has enjoyed from a man who chose to rather look ahead and not at the past.
Some say you are too young and inexperienced to take the state to the next level?
It is funny that some people are saying that Legor Idagbo is too young to become the governor of the state. Let me take you down memory lane, Clement Ebri became the governor or Cross River State at the age of 39. Donald Duke became the governor of the state at the age of 38. His Excellency Senator Liyel Imoke became the governor of the state at the age of 46. He was a senator at the age of 30. Today, I am 43. In fact, going by this age statistics, I should be the best qualified in terms of the age of my ideas to aspire to the office of the governor because I fall within the age brackets that had produced governors for the state in the past, since the time of Clement Ebri. So, when someone campaigns that Legor Idagbo is too young to be a governor, it smacks of mischief. They are trying to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. What they are actually scared of is that if I become the governor, those who are older could be retired from politics.
Change is a natural thing. It is only a bad father that would want to remain in charge for ever, without grooming his son to take over. I have not been anointed by anybody to be governor of the state. Even the incumbent has not confided in me that he wants me to be his successor. He may have his preferred candidates but I fancy my chances in the race because I know that I have what it takes to take this state to greater heights. And my aspiration enjoys the support of Cross Riverians across generations.

Housemaid Who Brutally Assaulted Ugandan Toddler Arnella Kamanzi Will Face Attempted Murder Charge + Parents Detail Weeks Of Abuse!

baby04
We all watched the harrowing viral video of the Ugandan nanny who viciously assaulted a helpless 18-month baby girl a few days ago.
Initially the maid identified as Jolly Tumuhirwe, was charged with torture, which carries a maximum sentence of 3 years. However after a review of her case her charge has been amended to attempted murder, as it should!
The 22 year old maid has been remanded at the Luzira Prison on Lusaka, she is set to reappear in court on December 8 for the attempted murder of baby Arnella Kamanzi.
The police spoke person said in a statement,
The charge against her has been amended to attempted murder upon re-perusal by the Resident State Attorney and the pending lines of inquiry in advanced stages. The maid admitted to partly hitting the infant with a torch, a process that was captured in the video clip. She was further subjected to medical tests and established to be a person of sound mind.

ArnellaKumanzi_that1960chick.com

The Ugandan Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development commended baby Arnella’s parents yesterday (Nov. 23) for their restraint, saying
Given the magnitude of torture meted out on their child, anybody would have picked the nearest object and killed the maid but he followed the law. We are also forwarding to Parliament the 2014 Children Amendment Act to strengthen the law on child abuse,”
According to Nation Media, Baby Arnella Kamanzi’s mother, Angella Mbabazi, is still overwhelmed with emotion at the ordeal her daughter went through. Taking about it leaves her in an emotional state.  She said about the evil housemaid,
Whenever I attempted to dig into her background, Tumuhirwe would shift in the couch, get sweaty and blubber a standard one-word response.
Arnella’s mother hoped one day the house-help would open up. She had only worked with them for 26 days when the brutal assault occurred.
Arnella’s parents noticed after she started working with them they would return from work to find Arnella limping, with wounds and bruises. When asked Tumuhirwe feigned ignorance and gave a standard response coated with a thick Rukiga accent, “Simanyi.”
Whenever we returned home we would find the house clean, she would bathe the children, feed them and take them to bed. Our first born goes to school so no one could tell us the source of Arnella’s bruises. That is when we installed CCTV cameras in the house.
After fixing the close circuit television camera (CCTV), the parents again found their daughter unwell and checked the footage, only to find the horrific video of a near-hell experience.

On November 13, Mr Eric Kamanzi, Arnella’s dad reported the matter to Kiwatule Police Post giving the video as evidence. The maid was immediately arrested and the case transferred to the Divisional Police Headquarters at Kira Road for better management.
Speaking on why she shared the video online, she said,
We shared the video on social media so that other parents can learn from it. By the grace of God, baby Arnella is fine. She got medication and recovered. She is well and God protected her, we are grateful.”
During the interview baby Arnella innocently interrupts her mother, keeping her eyes off strangers, the writer sees the fear in the little girls eyes. It is clear to see that her scars run skin deep. Poor child has been scarred for life

Leading Akwa Ibom PDP governorship aspirant, Umanah, set to defect to APC

A leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, Umanah Umanah, says he has concluded plans to defect to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Umanah served as the Akwa Ibom Secretary to the State Government, SSG, until July 2013 when he resigned his appointment to pursue his ambition to succeed his boss come 2015.
However, after his resignation and declaration, it became clear that he did not have the support of his former boss, who has since made his preferred candidate in the race known to the people of the state.
Apart from his interest to see his successor come from Eket Senatorial District, Governor Godswill Akpabio has also openly declared his support for Udom Emmanuel, the immediate past SSG, who succeeded Mr. Umanah after the latter’s resignation.
Mr. Emmanuel also resigned from office last month to contest the governorship race.
With such open support by the governor, followers of the politics in Akwa Ibom say it was becoming pretty obvious that aspirants on the platform of the PDP in the state from other senatorial districts (Uyo and Ikot Ekpene) would not stand a chance of realizing their aspirations.
Mr. Umanah, who comes from Uyo Senatorial district, is said to be one of the prime targets of the governor’s decision.
But, determined to realise his ambition, Mr. Umanah told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday in a telephone interview that he was ready to formally defect to the opposition APC in the state.
He said a formal declaration of his membership of the APC was scheduled for Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Thursday in a ceremony to be attended by all national officers of the party, including one of the party’s presidential aspirants, Muhammadu Buhari.
Others expected at the declaration include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who also defected from the PDP recently; a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu; as well as Governors of Rivers and Kano states, Chubuike Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Giving insights to Mr. Umanah’s decision, his media spokesperson, Iboro Otongaran, said his defection to the APC has nothing to do with Mr. Akpabio’s preference for another aspirant.
“The decision to move does not have anything to do with Governor Akpabio’s declaration about his preference in Udom Emmanuel or anybody,” Mr. Otongaran said. “It does not matter who the governor prefers. As a citizen of the state he has a right to prefer one person over another.”
Mr. Otongaran, however, blamed the decision on the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP, which recently issued a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metu, barring Mr. Umanah and other aspirants from Uyo Senatorial District, except those from Eket Senatorial district, from contesting the governorship elections in the state come 2015.
On his chance of realising his ambition under APC, with array of contenders already lined up to slug it out for the party’s ticket, Mr. Otongaran said Mr. Umanah remained unaffected, as he was the “real issue in the politics of Akwa Ibom State.”
“Whether Umanah Okon Umanah is in PDP, Labour Party, APC or Accord Party, he will still be the issue. In fact, even if there was a provision in the constitution for an independent candidate, he will still be the issue.
“The issue is not which party would brighten or dim his chances of winning the elections in Akwa Ibom State, because the Umanah brand is the real issue. People are interested in him irrespective of the party he is flying his flag,” he said.

Boko Haram crisis: 'Militant traders' raid Nigeria town

Hundreds of residents and soldiers are fleeing a northern Nigerian town attacked by militant Islamists disguised as traders, officials say.

Shootings and explosions had rocked the trading town of Damasak, near Niger's border, a senator told the BBC.

Boko Haram fighters seized a nearby fishing village on Thursday, reportedly killing 48 people.

On Sunday, Nigeria's top Islamic leader accused soldiers of "terrorising", rather than defending, civilians.

"Soldiers take to their heels and abandon their bases, arms, ammunition and other military hardware on the approach of the insurgents," said the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar.

Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar (February 2009) The sultan of Sokoto is Nigeria's most influential Muslim scholar

"Nigerian security forces only surface after the deadly attacks and terrorise an already terrorised people by installing road blocks and searching homes," he added in a statement issued on his behalf by Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the main body representing Muslim clerics in Nigeria.
'Inflicted horror'
The militants entered Damasak carrying containers which they claimed were full of goods for sale when were, in fact, stuffed with AK-47 rifles, local government official Mohammed Damasak said, AFP news agency reports.

Map

The gunmen "inflicted horror" and "many traders escaped with bullet wounds while many are lying dead at the market", he is quoted as saying.

Senator Maina Ma'aji Lawan told the BBC Hausa service that Boko Haram appeared to be on the verge of capturing Damasak, forcing people to flee to outlying villages and across the border into Niger.

NIGERIA: Why we blocked Tambuwal from entering National Assembly — Police

Abba

The Nigeria Police Force has defended its decision to block the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, from the National Assembly Thursday, saying the operation was based on an “intelligence report” and was meant to forestall the invasion of the assembly by “hoodlums”.
Mr. Tambuwal was barred from the assembly by security operatives on the first day the House was to sit since he defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Police fired teargas to stop mainly opposition lawmakers, including Mr. Tambuwal, from accessing the assembly, before the speaker’s loyalists smuggled him through security barriers into the House of Representatives chamber.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the police of acting on the directives of President Goodluck Jonathan to pave the way for Mr. Tambuwal’s removal as speaker.
In a statement hours after the attack, police said the action was to prevent the breakdown of law and order at the National Assembly and that its personnel had “the duty to restore order and normalcy, using lawful means”.
“Following an intelligence report of a likely invasion of the House of Representatives by hoodlums and thugs, the Nigeria Police Force promptly deployed its personnel to the premises to prevent a breakdown of law and order,” a statement by police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said.
“Consequently, the Police condoned the area and began screening of all members and visitors alike.”
The statement accused Mr. Tambuwal of arriving with a crowd, assaulting the police and violating a security cordon.
The Nigeria police was the first government establishment to move against Mr. Tambuwal after he defected to the APC on October 28.
On October 29, the police withdrew the speaker’s security aides and announced that Mr. Tambuwal was no longer the speaker.
In the statement issued by Mr. Ojukwu Thursday, the police did not refer to Mr. Tambuwal as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
Read the full statement below:
“Following an intelligence report of a likely invasion of the House of Representatives by hoodlums and thugs, the Nigeria Police Force promptly deployed its personnel to the premises to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
Consequently, the Police condoned the area and began screening of all members and visitors alike.
In the course of this lawful exercise, Alh. Aminu Tambuwal CFR, arrived the venue with a motley crowd, who broke the cordon, assaulted the Police and evaded due process and the Police had the duty to restore order and normalcy, using lawful means.
The IGP seizes this medium to warn all political actors and their followers to respect constituted authority and due process and to desist from the use of thugs to pursue their agenda.
The Nigeria Police shall continually apply all lawful means to prevent a breakdown of law and order in all segments of the society and shall apply the full weight of the law on any political actor who violates the peace and security of the nation.

Officials of Exclusive Events Ghana, organizers of the Miss Ghana pageant, will see her off. Ntanu leaves a month before the finals hold on December 14. While in the UK, and before moving into camp, she will pay a courtesy call on Ghana’s High Commission on Wednesday the 19th of November.

Lt Col Zida (l) and Michel Kafando (r) Lt Col Zida handed over as head of state to Michel Kafando on Monday

The authorities in Burkina Faso have appointed an army officer, Lt Col Isaac Zida, as transitional prime minister.

Col Zida had been among officers who took power when then President Blaise Compaore was forced to resign on 31 October during mass protests.

He declared himself head of state but on Tuesday oversaw the swearing-in of former Foreign Minister Michel Kafando as interim president.

The moves followed agreement on a year-long transition to elections.

The transitional charter imposes tight controls on the powers of Mr Kafando, who was the army's choice as interim leader.

The document calls for an interim legislative chamber to be installed until elections next year.

Col Zida is now expected to hold talks on forming a transitional government.

Col Zida was an officer in former President Compaore's presidential guard

Mr Compaore first seized power in a coup in 1987 and went on to win four disputed elections.

Tens of thousands of people took part in protests in Ouagadougou in October over moves to allow him to extend his rule.

Correspondents say the army has been given credit for averting chaos but the appointment of Col Zida may raise doubts about its promise to restore civilian rule.

Some people also regard Col Zida as part of the old order - he was a senior officer in Mr Compaore's presidential guard.

Before Col Zida's appointment, the United States and some other countries urged the military to hand back power to civilians or face the prospect of economic sanctions.

The US said Burkina Faso should "select individuals to serve in the transitional government who are firmly committed to a democratic, civilian government".

Kenyans protest after woman is beaten and stripped in public

An act of ‘slut-shaming’ in Nairobi has prompted women to protest in defence of their right to wear what they choose

Hundreds of women have turned out on the streets of the Kenyan capital today to defend their right to wear what they choose after a woman was stripped and beaten for wearing a miniskirt.
The attack, which took place last week at a busy bus stop in Nairobi’s Central Business District, involved dozens of men who surrounded the woman, tore off her clothes and forced her to the ground.
Local media said the men, who are believed to have been ticket touts, had said the woman was “indecently dressed”, and accused her of “tempting” them.
A video of the incident later emerged online, showing the men calling the woman “jezebel” as she cried for help. The footage has sparked debate in Kenya, with many Kenyans taking to social media to condemn the video, uniting under the hashtag #MyDressMyChoice.
Today the Facebook group Kilimani Mums organised a “miniskirt protest” in central Nairobi to defend their right to wear what they choose.
On their event page they wrote: “This morning we as Kilimani Mums met and decided that we shall hold a peaceful procession to Accra Road.”
“This is our chance to stand together as women and deliver a message to our country that sexual violence will not be tolerated.”
It is reported that over 200 people attended the march.
Hours after the protest departed from Uhuru Park to where the attack took place on the Accra Road, reports began to circulate of clashes with the ticket touts.
Kenya’s Ghetto Radio reported that the men confronted protestors and argued they would “continue to strip women who are dressed skimpily.”
The victim of the attack remains anonymous. Police chief David Kimaiyo appealed to her to lodge an official complaint with police so that the incident can be investigated, according to the BBC.
Campaigners say that in Kenya’s conservative society, women’s rights are often abused. A Kenyan petition titled “Violation against women will not be tolerated” hosted on the campaign website Avaaz has attracted over 4,000 signatures since it was launched last week.
“It doesn’t matter whether or not the woman was indecently dressed, after all what’s the benchmark for what is considered decent? Furthermore, how did stripping her bare aid in enhancing her decency?” wrote Winnie Kabintie.

Kenyan city of Mombasa hit by killings after mosque raids

At least three people have been stabbed to death by rampaging youths in the Kenyan city of Mombasa, officials say.

The attacks came hours after police raided two mosques they accuse of having links with militant Islamists in neighbouring Somalia.

One person was killed in the police raids and more than 200 were arrested.

Witnesses said masked youths armed with machetes then went on the rampage in the Kisauni area of the city, attacking people waiting at bus stops.

Several others were injured in the attacks, which were carried out in apparent revenge for the police action.
'Raids condemned'
"We are investigating the incident and have arrested some of the suspects," local police chief Richard Ngatia said.

Some of the youths were reported to be carrying black flags similar to one recovered in the raids on the Musa and Sakinah mosques.

Police said they had also seized a pistol and a cache of ammunition, including grenades, in the raids.

They say the mosques have links with the Somali militant Islamist group, al-Shabab, and have been used to recruit and train militants and store weapons.

Muslim clerics and human rights groups have condemned the raids, which they say will only reinforce feelings that police are targeting the entire Muslim community in Mombasa, a coastal city which is a popular tourist destination.

Mombasa County commissioner Nelson Marwa said three people had been killed by the rampaging youth. Relatives and hospital staff reported four deaths.

In February, a similar raid at the Musa mosque led to violent protests. The mosque was once controlled by the radical cleric Sheikh Abud Rogo, who was killed in 2012.

There have been a number of bombings and shootings in Mombasa since 2011 when Kenyan troops entered Somalia to attack al-Shabab.

NIGERIA: Patoranking Spices Things Up As He Covers MyStreetz Magazine

OnoBello
Music artiste, Patoranking covers the latest issue of MyStreetz Magazine where the issue of his immense contribution to dancehall is noted.
“Everything that evolution is all about is what a new generation Dancehall artiste like Patoranking is to the evolution of Reggae/ Dancehall music. Music will continue to evolve with the state of mind of the nation and that of its target audience. The best we can do during this transformation is to keep in mind the basic elements of the various genres. Anyone that fails to realize this reality will either be left behind disgruntled and dejected.  The factors that characterizes and defines Reggae music from the time it was originated, is arguably one of its major Achilles heels from enjoying widespread patronage among the young and new generation audience. Reggae music was gradually hitting an all-time low within young generation of music lovers until Dancehall artistes like Patoranking stepped in and rejuvenated the scene just like the artiste Blackky did some years back. The argument will continue to arise about the content of Blackky’s and Patoranking’s music to what Reggae was supposed to be but the truth is this, it’s a changing world. As long as they obey the fundamental structure of this genre, the message will continue to evolve depending on the part of the world they live in and the state of mind of the majority of their audience”, comments Sesan Adeniji, publisher of MyStreetz Magazine.

The white jumpsuit was her third outfit for her big day. She arrived at the venue of her nuptials on a bicycle alongside her husband to be in a white pantsuit, which also featured a plunging neckline.
For her wedding vows, she changed into an Humberto Leon for Kenzo white dress which featured a cape.
